Coronation Street killer Stephen Reid leaves Weatherfield in a body bag as Peter Barlow mows him down – but a shock twist sees more surprises

Serial killer Stephen Reid’s reign of terror came to an end during Friday’s episode of Coronation Street as he left Weatherfield in a body bag. 

A shocking twist saw him mowed down by Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) as he sped to The Rovers after hearing the murderer (Todd Boyce) was back in town and had Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) hostage. 

But the surprises didn’t end there for fans of the show, when in the last few moments it was revealed that his latest victim Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) was still alive. 

During the episode, residents were left reeling after Stephen’s murderous activities were unraveled, but he was nowhere to be seen. 

While attempting to board his flight to Bangkok, he had realised his passport was missing and was forced to return to Weatherfield to confront partner Jenny.

Drama: A shocking twist saw him mowed down by Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) as he sped to The Rovers after hearing the murderer (Todd Boyce) had Jenny Connor held hostage

Meanwhile, Jenny had heard noises coming from inside The Rovers Return and had taken it upon herself to investigate. 

Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox) urged Jenny to not go inside, saying: ‘Jenny this is not your responsibility this is a job for the police!’ 

The two ladies were almost knocked off their feet when Dylan Wilson came rushing out of the pub with his friend. 

Elsewhere, Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) had also spotted something inside the pub and entered the boarded up Rovers to investigate.

After speaking with Jenny, who explained she had caught Dylan smashing up glasses in the pub, Sarah revealed that she popped in after spotting someone upstairs. 

‘You saw me upstairs? I was never upstairs,’ Jenny replied. 

‘I think we should go!’ Sarah exclaimed after realising they were not alone.  

Before the duo got the chance to flee Stephen ran down the stairs and bashed his niece Sarah over the head with a wine bottle.

Ouch: Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) had also spotted something inside the pub and entered the boarded up Rovers to investigate when Stephen bashed her on the head with a bottle 

Battle: After waking, Sarah hit Stephen over the head with a chair resulting in a scuffle that saw the serial killer take Jenny hostage

Rushing to the scene: But as Stephen decides to set Jenny free, Peter speeds down the street, mowing down the murderer

‘No, you made me do this, that was you! She is breathing she will fine. This was your fault! You were both sneaking around,’ Stephen shouted at Jenny. 

Meanwhile, a worried Gail texts the Weatherfield group chat where she received a reply from ‘Jenny’ saying Sarah is at the precinct with her. 

Back at The Rovers Stephen is seen sending the message to Gail from Jenny’s phone while he questioned her about the whereabouts of his passport. 

Jenny the began to piece everything together as she realised that Teddy’s body must have been hidden in the roof box, not sewing machines as previously believed. 

Stephen admitted that he committed the crimes through ‘fear of failing’ saying it was he last chance to be a success rather than ‘washed up and pathetic.’ 

Jenny told Stephen that his passport was in her handbag and he should run before Audrey finds out who he really is in attempt to set herself free. 

As he confesses his love for Jenny, voices are heard outside the pub, but Stephen muffles Jenny’s screams for help with his hand. 

After hearing the screams Sean Tully and rushes to help, informing the police that he thinks Stephen is inside The Rovers. 

After waking, Sarah hit Stephen over the head with a chair resulting in a scuffle that saw the serial killer take Jenny hostage. 

Stephen then walked Jenny out of the pub, holding at broken bottle to her throat, in front of the Platt family who have gathered on the pavement outside. 

Upset: Reeling from the shock of Stephen’s death, with mum Audrey (Sue Nicholls) crouched over him, fans were hit with another bombshell as Tim opens his eyes from the boot of his taxi

Will Tim be found before it’s too late? Will Underworld’s stolen money be found before the business collapses and will Peter be arrested for murder?

Meanwhile at Roy’s cafe, Carla takes a phone call from Peter Barlow and with the duo putting two and two together, Carla runs to the Rovers while the cabbie speeds to the scene. 

But as Stephen decides to set Jenny free, Peter speeds down the street, mowing down the murderer. 

Reeling from the shock of Stephen’s death, with mum Audrey (Sue Nicholls)  crouched over him, fans were hit with another bombshell as Tim, who’d been attacked by Stephen earlier in the week, opened his eyes from the boot of his taxi. 

Will Tim be found before it’s too late? Will Underworld’s stolen money be found before the business collapses and will Peter be arrested for murder?
